The former telephone exchange, the second-tallest building in the city of Konstanz, is to be transformed into a residential high-rise in conjunction with a redensification of the adjacent land by developing everything into a residential area with a small part allotted to commercial use. The plans for the new structures along the perimeter transform the whole property into a future-oriented housing development with a daycare and commercial section as well as a spacious naturally green patio area. The challenge consists in integrating the high-rise with its multiple forms of living areas and a varied, elegant façade with cantilever balconies – which stands in contrast to the new buildings – into the context of the urban area and at the same time giving the ensemble a distinct identity.
A second prize was awarded by the jury to Holzer Kobler Architekturen Zurich / Berlin together with A 24 Landschaft Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH.
