The suggested urban development of Cuxhaven’s Old Fishing Port (Alter Fischereihafen), which was designed in collaboration with landscape architect Atelier Loidl, has found critical acclaim: The vision of a new port area has won 1st prize. The competition has produced a further winner.
The goal of the urban design is presenting a frame that can flexibly adjust to future changes, but is also sufficiently clear-cut to ensure a specific development of the port area.
The design is focussed on maintaining and strengthening Cuxhaven’s port atmosphere by combining the old and the new. Existing structures are to be kept alongside newly built architecture. Their coexistence will provide an up-to-date backdrop for local daily live as well as widely traveled visitors.
