Planet B - Semester Presentation
In Search of Tomorrow's (Housing Design) Culture
Dusseldorf

Megatrends that are already emerging today will alter the cultural practices related to housing. Architecture will have to adapt itself to evolving needs, values and priorities. The decentralisation of life in the course of increasing mobility, cooperative living ("sharing economy"), the flexibilisation of living space (adaptable zones), new and intelligent technologies and nature ("green"), as a part of architecture, constitute new parameters for the development of buildings and cities. Can we derive ideas for future housing design from these trends that are already discernible? As planners, are we able to influence these trends - in the sense of a relevant contribution to the (housing design) culture of the future? The visions developed by students from the class of prof. Barbara Holzer and prof. Tanja Kullack on the topic of "Leben im Morgen" ["Living Tomorrow"], will be presented, at the exhibition, on 8th July 2016 between 9.30am and 6pm.

The exhibition’s theme may seem far-fetched for a natural history museum. More than a natural phenomena, the idea of Apocalypse is a cultural concept. However, environmental damage has become a real threat today. But doesn’t show history as well that natural and man-made disasters have always fuelled innovation? Scientific and cultural perspectives are interweaved in the exhibition.

Opening Gewalt und Geschlecht
War as Male - Peace as Female?
Dresden

Violence and gender have always had a complex and often unsettling relationship. There is a persistence in attributing war with the masculine, peace with the feminine. A special exhibition at Military History Museum examines the phenomenon from unexpected angles and challenges established notions.

The installation "targeted interventions" conquers the museum’s yard for the time of the exhibition: Contemporary artists present their positions regarding the interplay of violence and gender.

The exhibition is shown from April 27 to October 30, 2018.

1st Prize in the Competition Old Fishing Port Cuxhaven

The suggested urban development of Cuxhaven’s Old Fishing Port (Alter Fischereihafen), which was designed in collaboration with landscape architect Atelier Loidl, has found critical acclaim: The vision of a new port area has won 1st prize. The competition has produced a further winner.

The goal of the urban design is presenting a frame that can flexibly adjust to future changes, but is also sufficiently clear-cut to ensure a specific development of the port area.

The design is focussed on maintaining and strengthening Cuxhaven’s port atmosphere by combining the old and the new. Existing structures are to be kept alongside newly built architecture. Their coexistence will provide an up-to-date backdrop for local daily live as well as widely traveled visitors.

Apocalypse — End Without End
Exhibition at Natural History Museum Bern

The exhibition’s theme may seem far-fetched for a natural history museum. More than a natural phenomena, the idea of Apocalypse is a cultural concept. However, environmental damage has become a real threat today. But doesn’t show history as well that natural and man-made disasters have always fuelled innovation? Scientific and cultural perspectives are interweaved in this show.

The exhibition is shown from November 10, 2017 (planned running time five years).

Opening Exhibition Einsiedeln Abbey

Large stairs leading up to the new annex set the mood for a secular pilgrimage into the abundant history of Einsiedeln abbey. The abbey’s dimensions, the colors of the baroque church and the rituals related to the famous Black Madonna establish the exhibition’s atmosphere.

Many of the objects on display, mostly gifts of generous pilgrims, are shown for the first time outside of the abbey as part of an impressive mise-en-scène. The presentation of objects such as precious ornaments and textiles reveals the abbey’s significance beyond a religious context.

The exhibition is shown from September 16, 2017 to Januar 21, 2018.

Opening Exhibition Das Kapital

Karl Marx’s Capital was first published 150 years ago in Hamburg. For the anniversary, the Museum der Arbeit presents a controversial exhibition addressing the book’s historical background and its implications for contemporary society. A sequence of vivid rooms presents the writing, publishing, interpreting, reading and discussion of Capital, a book which has proven a difficult read and provoked widely varied interpretations. Quotes and statements illustrate the relevant questions raised by Capital, and visitors’ perspectives and reactions are continuously integrated into the exhibition. The image of the world as a product in a supermarket is the starting point for a journey through time, beliefs, and terminology. Visually, the tour oscillates between pop art, storehouses and historical Hamburg.

The exhibition is shown from September 6, 2017 to March, 4 2018.
